Aloha Kanu 'Ohana,
Based on the latest guidance and information from health officials, our elected leaders, and the Hawai'i Department of Education, our school campus will remain closed to all students until at least April 30, 2020. Traditional in-school instruction will be on-hold until schools are able to reopen after this COVID-19 crisis and pandemic.
Kanu's administration and instructional staff are working remotely this week and meeting virtually to plan review and enrichment activities for your keiki for the week of March 30 through April 3rd, 2020. Individual kumu or hui partners will share these activities, projects and enrichment opportunities with you before this week ends.
Administration will be sending parents a technology and internet access survey to help us to better plan how to support your child and your 'ohana as we move forward in planning for alternative methods to remain connected with students and make plans for distance learning beyond April 3rd.
Due to COVID-19 school campus closures, state testing has also been canceled. Students in grades 3-8 & 11 will NOT need to take the Smarter Balance Assessment for Reading and Math, students in grades 5 & 8 will NOT need to take the Hawai'i State Assessment for Science, and Biology students will NOT need to take the Biology end-of-year exam this school year.
We are also sad to announce that this school year's Hula Drama Performance has been canceled. Our Hula Drama Directors and lead kumu will meet virtually to discuss how we might extend this year's plans of mo'olelo into next's year's plan.
Please see attached school closure (until 4/30) letter from the Superintendent of HIDOE for more information.
Mahalo nui for your understanding and patience. Be on the lookout for our technology/internet survey, and enrichment & review opportunities for next week from individual kumu.
